My name is Rawan Ita-Diaz, an Iraqi-born watercolor artist based in Detroit, Michigan. I create expressive watercolor paintings that honor the beauty, the struggle, and everything in between.

I never expected to become an artist. I was supposed to be an architect.
After earning my Master’s Degree in Architecture & Design, I thought I had my future figured out. But in 2017, everything changed when I was struck by an SUV while walking into work. In an instant, the life I had planned was replaced with chronic pain, physical limitations, and emotional distress.
Art found me during that season.
As I searched for healing, I discovered watercolor. Its gentle nature met me where I was, allowing me to create at my own pace while teaching me to let go of perfection and control. What began as a way to cope with pain quickly became a lifelong passion.
Today, my work is influenced by every season of life, from adversity and healing to purpose, life transitions, and motherhood. Every painting carries a piece of my journey while inviting you to find your own meaning within it.
I believe the most impactful art doesn’t just decorate a wall. It preserves a feeling, commemorates a season, and offers you encouragement. Whether inspired by heritage, healing, or everyday life, I create each watercolor painting with the hope that it brings comfort, pride, and warmth into your space.
While our experiences may be different, we all know joy. We all know loss. We all know hope. Through my work, I honor the precious moments of our lives, creating watercolor paintings that can be cherished for years to come.
