Here’s the good, the bad, & the truth behind my TheraPaint Sessions

Organic Shapes

The Juxtaposition of Organic Geometry

I was thrilled when my friend Xavier commissioned me for an installation to enhance his powder room. Xavier loves local art and wants to support artists like myself so I was excited to create unique, original artwork for his space.

Display Composition

Xavier’s space gave us the best opportunity to create a modern and symmetrical installation for the artwork. Below, I share the original space and conceptual layout of the art install. Xavier absolutely loved this vision!

The layout follows a geometric scheme with sophistication, much like what inspired Xavier to commission me.

“Yes omg! You get me!

Patron’s Inspo

Patron Xavier spent time traveling around the world and fell in love with particular art pieces. He was captivated by a particular display in Barcelona. The art pieces are clean, rigid shapes and laid out in a gridded pattern.

Behind the scenes…
With Xavier’s inspiration in mind, we discussed his favorite parts of the exhibit in Barcelona and what he personally envisions for his space. Xavier admires geometric shapes but wants a softer, more organic outline as well as layering of different shapes and colors.

I sketched unique shapes along with common ones and paired rounded and straight forms of varying sizes to add contrast and balance.

Xavier adored the sketch and was so excited for me to bring these pieces to life!

“Yes! Loving this! Like yes, yes, yes, this is perf!”

To create layers of transparency and a soft flow into the organic shapes, I chose to use watercolor as the medium.

I reached for my go-to palettes; a compact Pinta PH set that is filled with stunning earth tones and a medium sized palette from Prima  filled with primary color options.

So, I grabbed my watercolor, favorite round brushes, two water jars, and a clipboard to take out on my balcony and I began rendering the layers of each shape.

I placed the rich warm tones so that they are opposite of the muted cooler tones to create a balanced composition.

Xavier’s wall is painted a navy gray color so I knew complementary earthy tones would be a nice fit. Xavier loves muted primary hues so I created a custom color palette.

The colors are rich turmeric, natural terracotta, leafy sage, and an ocean blue. When layered upon one another, they flow so beautifully together!

Final Pieces…
And here they are!
Each one created carefully to be a unique piece of art on its own while showcased beautifully when displayed together as a collection.

Which one is your fav? Let me know in the comments!

“Omg this little care package! I took a peek at them and love them so much. Thank you!”

“I freaking love them, thank you so much!”
