RawanGood vs. Evil and the In-Between
Here’s an exciting message to open up in the middle of the day…a quick note that later turned into my largest art commission to date!
“I am looking for an Ita-Diaz original 1/1!”
Creative Freedom
Robert was seeking art that tells the story of ‘Good vs. Evil’. I asked if he had anything specific in mind to go along with his new home in Jersey (color, style, composition, size) and his response allowed me total creative freedom! Sometimes, that can be overwhelming for artists but I had some direction of the concept. I knew Robert loved my fluid painting style and I also knew the theme would revolve around Good vs. Evil / Light vs. Dark.

Compositional Layouts
We began the process by choosing between a couple of composition layouts and sizing. He let me know that he wanted something with a large presence. With that note, I showed him variations and placed them in a mockup space so he can visualize the impact of the pieces.
Concept Sketching
From this point on, Robert wanted to be surprised!
This meant, after choosing the compositional layout of the series, he didn’t want to be updated with progress photos until it was complete! This made the project all the more exciting for me. Respecting his wishes, I let him know how the project was coming along but did not share photos, color choices, or any design decisions with him.
Following Composition Option #2, I worked on a few concept sketches that allowed me to flush out ideas until I found the right color scheme and flow of movement.
Painting Prep
On a beautiful, warm, early September day, I prepped my balcony painting station and began painting away for hours!
Final Touches
I have fallen absolutely in love with this concept. The messaging behind it (scroll down to read all about that!) speaks to us a society and puts a light on the conflicts we face – seeking good while battling our evil desires.
Not only do I love the meaning behind this quadtych, I am so proud of the final result. Each part tells a story on its own and together, their statement is profound and eye-catching.
Their Message
Many believe that Good vs. Evil is as simple as Black and White. This artwork tells the true story.
Good may be as pure as snow, without blame, yet from its goodness, it coexists with Evil, allowing Evil to seep into Good.
Evil can be as clear and obvious as the black night in some ways. In others, it is as beautiful as the blue sea, luring us closer and closer to its depths until we no longer recognize where we have gone.
Life is a battle of Good vs. Evil. We are the mixture in between – trying to decipher how to live with Good while enjoying the temptations of Evil. We allow ourselves to blend Good and Evil until we can no longer understand the difference between the two. So, we must look to Good’s pure intentions to be free of Evil’s dark grasp.
