Father’s Day is approaching. This can be a joyous occasion that makes for memorable quality time with the family. I had quite a few of those with my father. The last time we got to celebrate my father was in 2018. My sister went aaallll out! She takes after our father in that sense. He was quite the charmer and loved to show his affection through serving others and gave without needing to be asked.
I sit here and reminisce about that last and special Father’s Day. My sister called us all outside to the yard. My mom, my brother, my father, and I went out to hear party horns and small fireworks. We made our way towards her and saw sparklers, balloons, a cake, and her excitement! Our father absolutely loved it! We couldn’t help but laugh at how cute and elaborate this was. My father sure deserved it. What a moment we were all able to share together that is now a precious memory. We didn’t know it at the time, but that was the last time we could wish him a Happy Father’s Day.
My father was such a large part of my artistry. He set up spaces for me throughout the start of my journey. As my creativity grew, the space he set up for me grew.
Within a few months of painting, he helped me dedicate a studio in a room of our home, all to myself and my creativity! He encouraged me to dream BIG. He didn’t accept any talk of self-doubt or self-sabotage. I took chances on myself because of his confidence in me and in my potential. When I make art, I think of him, his reaction to each piece, his support, and his encouragement. Each accomplishment I reach is dedicated in his honor.
So, I’d like to continue to honor him through my paintings.
