If a paintbrush is too heavy to use or it’s your heart that is feeling too heavy to get up, make something anyway. This week has been one of many of the bad ones during the past several months. Sometimes I can bring myself to splash emotions around and call it art. Sometimes I can’t manage to get from my bed to my desk. It’s about 8 feet away but anger and depression make it feel like an impossible reach. So, have your meltdown. Let your emotions consume you. But don’t stop there. Take whatever fear or anxiety is holding you back and use it. Someone encouraged me to do the same…
“If you turn it into more anger then what are you getting out of it? If you turn it into art you make something beautiful that’s inspiring.”

Take whatever your “it” is and transform it into expression. Calma is not the result of calm and tranquil feelings; in fact, it was quite the opposite.  Calmness only occurred after making this piece.

You’re not alone in your suffering. Some people are just better at hiding it. Instead of hiding it, I choose to show it to the world – whether it’s on a piece of canvas or a sheet of paper – it’s out there and out of me.
